The videos and tiktok esk side makes it fun to hear my target language and I love how they (for Japanese) focus on kanji and the answer has the furigana.

Is Western Armenian difficult to learn for English speakers?
Western Armenian is classified by the US Foreign Service Institute as a Category IV language, requiring around 1,100 hours to reach professional proficiency — on a par with Eastern Armenian, though the two dialects differ enough in pronunciation, vocabulary, and verb conjugation that prior knowledge of one does not fully transfer to the other. Like Eastern Armenian, it uses the 38-character Armenian alphabet created by Mesrop Mashtots in the 5th century, which takes several weeks to master but is phonetically consistent once learned. Grammar includes seven noun cases and a complex verb system, though Western Armenian has simplified some features present in Eastern Armenian, making it marginally more approachable in certain respects. Vocabulary shares no roots with English beyond distant Indo-European connections. Memrise structures Western Armenian learning around high-frequency vocabulary and everyday phrases, helping learners tackle the script and core grammar progressively rather than being overwhelmed from the start.
How long does it take to learn Western Armenian?
Western Armenian sits in the US Foreign Service Institute's Category IV, with an estimated 1,100 hours to reach professional proficiency — comparable to Eastern Armenian, though the differences in pronunciation, verb conjugation, and vocabulary mean learners cannot simply transfer knowledge between the two dialects without additional study. The Armenian alphabet adds an early investment, though it is phonetically consistent and typically mastered within a few weeks, and the case system and complex verb conjugations mean the grammar remains demanding well beyond the beginner stage. That said, Western Armenian has simplified certain grammatical features compared to Eastern Armenian, which can make some aspects marginally more approachable. Memrise focuses lessons on high-frequency vocabulary and everyday phrases, helping learners tackle the script and core grammar progressively and build practical fluency steadily.
