The videos and tiktok esk side makes it fun to hear my target language and I love how they (for Japanese) focus on kanji and the answer has the furigana.

Is Breton difficult to learn for English speakers?
Breton is considered quite challenging for English speakers, broadly comparable to Welsh and Cornish in difficulty — the three languages share the same Brythonic Celtic roots and similar grammatical features. Like its Celtic relatives, Breton uses a verb-initial sentence structure and an initial consonant mutation system where the beginning of a word changes depending on grammatical context, a feature with no parallel in English. Vocabulary shares virtually no roots with English, and the language has also absorbed significant French influence over centuries, adding a layer of complexity when navigating between native Celtic vocabulary and French loanwords. On the plus side, Breton uses a Latin-based alphabet and its pronunciation, while distinctive, is phonetically consistent. Memrise structures Breton learning around high-frequency vocabulary and everyday phrases, helping learners build a practical foundation in one of Europe's most endangered and culturally rich languages progressively.
How long does it take to learn Breton?
Breton has no official US Foreign Service Institute rating, but is broadly estimated to require 900 to 1,100 hours to reach conversational proficiency — comparable to Welsh and Cornish, its closest Celtic relatives. The verb-initial grammar, consonant mutations, and lack of shared vocabulary with English all slow early progress, and the limited availability of learning resources compared to major European languages adds a practical challenge. That said, the Latin-based alphabet and phonetically consistent pronunciation remove the script hurdle, and the grammar follows consistent Celtic patterns once the core structures are familiar. Memrise focuses lessons on high-frequency vocabulary and everyday phrases, helping learners build a practical foundation in one of Europe's most endangered and culturally rich languages steadily and progressively.
