The videos and tiktok esk side makes it fun to hear my target language and I love how they (for Japanese) focus on kanji and the answer has the furigana.

Is Klingon difficult to learn for English speakers?
Klingon is a constructed fictional language created by linguist Marc Okrand for the Star Trek franchise — and unlike many fictional languages, it was deliberately designed to feel alien, making it one of the more challenging constructed languages for English speakers. Its grammar is built around an object-verb-subject word order, the opposite of English, and an elaborate system of verb prefixes that encode both subject and object within the verb itself. The vocabulary is entirely invented with no roots in any natural language, meaning learners are building from scratch with no familiar footholds. That said, Klingon has a dedicated global fan community — the Klingon Language Institute has been active since 1992 — and its grammar, while unusual, follows consistent rules throughout. Memrise structures Klingon learning around the core vocabulary and grammatical patterns, making it an accessible and entertaining challenge for fans who want to engage more deeply with the Star Trek universe.
How long does it take to learn Klingon?
Klingon has no formal proficiency benchmark, but most dedicated learners reach a solid conversational level within one to two years of regular study — longer than Toki Pona or Dovahzul, largely due to the alien object-verb-subject grammar and entirely invented vocabulary that offers no familiar footholds. The verb prefix system, which encodes both subject and object within a single prefix, takes real effort to internalise, and the deliberately unfamiliar sound system adds an early phonetic challenge. That said, the grammar follows consistent rules throughout, and the Klingon Language Institute has produced excellent learning resources for a language with such a dedicated fan base. Memrise focuses lessons on the core vocabulary and grammatical patterns, giving fans a structured and enjoyable path to speaking one of science fiction's most iconic languages.
