The videos and tiktok esk side makes it fun to hear my target language and I love how they (for Japanese) focus on kanji and the answer has the furigana.

Is Marshallese difficult to learn for English speakers?
Marshallese is considered quite challenging for English speakers, broadly sitting in the Category III to IV range with an estimated 1,100 hours or more to reach professional proficiency. It is an Austronesian language spoken in the Marshall Islands, and while it shares the same language family as Hawaiian and Māori, its phonology is notably more complex — Marshallese has an unusually large consonant inventory that includes distinctions between plain, labialised, and palatalised consonants that are highly unfamiliar to English ears. Grammar uses a verb-final structure and a system of directional markers that indicate the orientation of actions relative to the speaker, a feature with no parallel in English. Vocabulary shares no roots with English. On the plus side, Marshallese uses a Latin-based alphabet and has no grammatical gender or noun cases. Memrise structures Marshallese learning around high-frequency vocabulary and everyday phrases, helping learners build a practical foundation in one of the Pacific's most distinctive languages progressively rather than being overwhelmed from the start.
How long does it take to learn Marshallese?
Marshallese sits in the Category III to IV range, with an estimated 1,100 hours or more to reach professional proficiency — among the more demanding Pacific languages for English speakers. The unusually complex consonant inventory, with its three-way distinction between plain, labialised, and palatalised consonants, takes significant ear training to internalise, and the directional marker system and verb-final grammar are structurally unfamiliar throughout. Vocabulary offers no shortcuts from English, and learning resources are more limited than for major world languages, reflecting the relatively small speaker community. That said, the Latin-based alphabet removes the script hurdle, and the grammar has no grammatical gender or noun cases, which removes some layers of complexity. Memrise focuses lessons on high-frequency vocabulary and everyday phrases, helping learners build a practical foundation in one of the Pacific's most distinctive languages steadily and progressively.
