The videos and tiktok esk side makes it fun to hear my target language and I love how they (for Japanese) focus on kanji and the answer has the furigana.
vianewsonI don’t ever leave reviews. Memrise provides natural speaking habits of your target language and works on listening skills in a way that no other app I’ve found does. I recently started Japanese and I can say that Memrise is great at all languages!

Is Choctaw difficult to learn for English speakers?
Choctaw is considered quite challenging for English speakers, broadly sitting in the Category III to IV range with an estimated 1,100 hours or more to reach professional proficiency. It is a Muskogean language spoken primarily in Oklahoma and Mississippi, and its grammar is structurally unlike anything most English speakers encounter — it is verb-final, highly agglutinative, and encodes information about the subject, object, and the nature of actions directly within complex verb forms. Choctaw also makes grammatical distinctions that English does not, including whether actions are performed by one person, two people, or more than two — a separate dual number that affects verb forms throughout. Vocabulary shares no roots with English. On the plus side, Choctaw uses a Latin-based alphabet and its grammar, while complex, follows consistent rules throughout. Memrise structures Choctaw learning around high-frequency vocabulary and everyday phrases, helping learners build a practical foundation in one of North America's most historically significant indigenous languages progressively rather than being overwhelmed from the start.
How long does it take to learn Choctaw?
Choctaw has no official US Foreign Service Institute rating, but is broadly estimated to require 1,100 hours or more to reach professional proficiency — among the more demanding languages for English speakers. The agglutinative verb system, dual number, and verb-final grammar mean the learning curve remains steep well beyond the beginner stage, and vocabulary offers no shortcuts from English. The availability of learning resources is more limited than for major world languages, though the Choctaw Nation has invested significantly in language revitalisation efforts in recent years, improving the quality and accessibility of materials. That said, the Latin-based alphabet removes the script hurdle, and the grammar follows consistent rules throughout, which rewards patient, regular practice. Memrise focuses lessons on high-frequency vocabulary and everyday phrases, helping learners build a practical foundation in one of North America's most historically significant indigenous languages steadily and progressively.
