The videos and tiktok esk side makes it fun to hear my target language and I love how they (for Japanese) focus on kanji and the answer has the furigana.
vianewsonI don’t ever leave reviews. Memrise provides natural speaking habits of your target language and works on listening skills in a way that no other app I’ve found does. I recently started Japanese and I can say that Memrise is great at all languages!

Is Serbian difficult to learn for English speakers?
Serbian is classified by the US Foreign Service Institute as a Category III language, requiring around 1,100 hours to reach professional proficiency. It shares the same core challenges as Croatian — a seven-case system, three grammatical genders, and verb aspects — and the two languages are mutually intelligible, so prior exposure to Croatian transfers well. A unique added complexity is that Serbian uses two scripts: Cyrillic and Latin, and while most speakers use both, learning Cyrillic adds an early hurdle. Memrise structures Serbian learning around high-frequency vocabulary and everyday phrases, building practical familiarity with the patterns gradually so the grammar feels manageable from the start.
How long does it take to learn Serbian?
Serbian sits in the US Foreign Service Institute's Category III, with an estimated 1,100 hours to reach professional proficiency — on a par with Croatian, Czech, and Polish. The seven-case system and verb aspects take sustained effort, and learners who also want to master Cyrillic script face an additional early investment. The upside is that Serbian grammar is consistent, and speakers of other Slavic languages will find significant overlap in both vocabulary and structure. Memrise focuses lessons on high-frequency vocabulary and everyday phrases, helping learners build practical fluency steadily through one of Europe's more demanding languages.
