The videos and tiktok esk side makes it fun to hear my target language and I love how they (for Japanese) focus on kanji and the answer has the furigana.

Is Scots difficult to learn for English speakers?
Scots is one of the easiest languages for English speakers to learn — it is a Germanic language closely related to English, sharing a large proportion of vocabulary and a broadly similar grammatical structure. Many English speakers find they can understand basic Scots immediately, with words like dinnae (don't), wee (small), and braw (fine) becoming familiar very quickly. The main adjustment is phonological — Scots has distinctive sounds and spelling conventions that differ from standard English — and some vocabulary is entirely unique, with no English equivalent. That said, the line between Scots and Scottish English is debated, and learners will find significant variation across regions. Memrise structures Scots learning around the high-frequency vocabulary and everyday phrases that capture the richness of the language, making it an enjoyable and accessible learning experience for English speakers.
How long does it take to learn Scots?
Scots is one of the fastest languages for English speakers to pick up — most learners reach a comfortable reading and conversational level within a few weeks to a few months of regular exposure, given the extensive shared vocabulary and similar grammatical structure with English. The main time investment is in fine-tuning pronunciation, learning the distinctive spelling conventions, and building familiarity with regional vocabulary variation. Unlike most languages on this list, the barrier to basic comprehension is low from day one. Memrise focuses lessons on the high-frequency vocabulary and everyday phrases that capture the richness and character of Scots, making it one of the most accessible and enjoyable languages on the platform.
