Is Akan-Twi difficult to learn for English speakers?
Akan-Twi is considered moderately to quite challenging for English speakers, broadly sitting in the Category III range with an estimated 1,100 hours to reach professional proficiency. It is a tonal language spoken primarily in Ghana, with two tones that change the meaning of a word entirely — a feature that takes sustained ear training for English speakers to internalise. Grammar is verb-final in some constructions and uses a series of tense and aspect markers rather than verb conjugations, which is structurally unfamiliar to English speakers.
