The videos and tiktok esk side makes it fun to hear my target language and I love how they (for Japanese) focus on kanji and the answer has the furigana.
vianewsonI don’t ever leave reviews. Memrise provides natural speaking habits of your target language and works on listening skills in a way that no other app I’ve found does. I recently started Japanese and I can say that Memrise is great at all languages!

Is Greenlandic difficult to learn for English speakers?
Greenlandic (Kalaallisut) is considered one of the most challenging languages for English speakers, with no official US Foreign Service Institute rating but broadly estimated to require 1,500 hours or more to reach professional proficiency. It is a polysynthetic language — meaning entire sentences can be expressed as a single word built from a root with multiple suffixes stacked together — a grammatical structure that has no parallel in English or most European languages. Vocabulary shares no roots with English, and the writing system, while Latin-based, reflects sounds unfamiliar to most English speakers. That said, Greenlandic spelling is phonetically consistent and the grammar, while deeply complex, follows systematic rules throughout. Memrise structures Greenlandic learning around high-frequency vocabulary and everyday phrases, helping learners build a practical foundation in one of the world's most structurally unique languages progressively rather than being overwhelmed from the start.
How long does it take to learn Greenlandic?
Greenlandic has no official US Foreign Service Institute rating, but is broadly estimated to require 1,500 hours or more to reach professional proficiency — placing it among the most time-intensive languages for English speakers. Its polysynthetic grammar, where entire sentences are compressed into single words through layers of suffixes, means the learning curve remains steep well beyond the beginner stage, and vocabulary offers no shortcuts from English. That said, the Latin-based alphabet removes the script hurdle, and the grammar follows highly systematic rules throughout, which rewards patient, regular practice. Memrise focuses lessons on high-frequency vocabulary and everyday phrases, helping learners build a practical foundation in one of the world's most structurally unique languages progressively and make steady progress over what is inevitably a long-term journey.
