Micrometer
A gauge which measures small distances or thicknesses .001" or a hundred thousandth of an inch. Also can be metric or standard units, analog, or digital, large device or small device. An expensive delicate de…
Dial Caliper
A precision measuring tool that measures the dimensions of a physical object's features. 4 modes; outside dist., inside distance, step distance, depth measurement. Most dial calipers are precise to within .001" or a hundred thousandth of an inch.
Machinist Ruler
Graduated 32nds, 64ths etc. Used for manufacturing of parts for equipment.
Depth Gauge
To confirm the depth of the drill hole to determine the length of the hardware insert.
Analog Caliper
Just like a dial caliper but without the dial. Can measure: DEPTH, OUTSIDE, AND INSIDE OF MANY OBJECTS with precision.
Telescoping Gauge
Used INSIDE OF CYLINDER, for measuring the distance from side to side. Motor cylinders are most common. Top, center, and bottom readings.
Outside Caliper
For measuring the OUTSIDE of a round object, like a pipe diameter.
Inside Caliper
For measuring INSIDE of a round object like a pipe.
slide rule
A device that can perform complicated math by using sliding guides on a rulerlike device
Level
Used for balance or equal angles. Uses a liquid with a bubble and a holding device. Used by carpenters with doors and windows.
Plumb bob
Used in the brick and block industry to determine if a wall angle straight vertically. Gravity allows the weight, and string to show the correct position the wall should be at.
Line Level
This is used with a long string across the top of a fence, it has a termination nail, & origin nail. If the fence is not level the string and bubble with show this.
Scale
Used to measure the objects weight. May be controlled mechanically with a spring tension, with equal weights side to side, or digitally with a computer chip.
Laser
Measures distance by bouncing the beam from device to wall and then back. A small reader calculates the distance with a computer chip.
Tape Measure
Uses the tape to measure distances from wall to wall. Carpenters, and furniture makers use this.
Flexible Tape Measure
Allows it to be wrapped around a person for clothing sizing etc.
Mechanical
Uses springs, gears, levers, bearings, and connections to create actions.
Electronic
Uses sensors, photo eyes, speakers, transistors, capacitors, relays, and electronic devices mounted to a green board, with small pathways for electrical communication. The electrical impulses go to computer chips, then data is analyzed and a…
Wooden Ruler
Used for measuring & drawing with paper.
Steel Ruler
Used in work areas that contain oil, or are in need of a strong ruler, like a woods lab.
bevel gauge
Allows for a protractor like angle to be copied from one object to another, ie: 45 deg angle.
Center Punch
Allows for a 'divot' to be made in the material, so the drill bit doesn't miss the exact spot measured.
square
a rhombus with four right angle
Pencil
Allows for marking on wood.
CAD
Computer Aided Design - Software generates three dimensional diagrams from a set of given input data.
chair wood
Contains all the information necessary for building a Chair out of wood materials.
