Ignore?
Histograms
are bar graphs in which
How many bars or classes?
Not too many or too little! Let the spread of the data and the purpose of the histogram be your guide! (I will usually tell you!)
Midpoint
if a line segment has a midpoint, then the 2 segments formed are congruent
frequency table
a data display that shows how often an item appears in a category
Relative Frequency
the ratio of the frequency of a category to the total frequency
Symmetrical
When one half is a mirror image of the other half.
uniform
A distribution that's roughly flat.
Skewed left
A histogram in which the tail rises from left to right. The values increase as you move to the right. Going up the steps.
Skewed right
A histogram in which the tail falls from left to right. The values decrease as you move to the right. Going down the steps.
Bimodal
A histogram in which the two classes with the largest frequencies are separated by at least one class. This sometimes indicates we are sampling from two different populations.
