Varnishing
Makes the surface of a whole page or item of packaging shiny, smooth and glossy.
Spot Varnishing
Where only part of an object is varnished e.g. just text or an image. This helps to draw attention to those areas.
Laminating
Adding a layer of a different material to the surface of another e.g. plastic to card to make a waterproof carton or cup.
Encapsulation
Adding a layer of a material to both sides of a material e.g. plastic on a back stage pass or ID badge.
Foil Application
Using heat and pressure to print metal foil onto certain areas of a product e.g logo, in order to draw attention and give the impression of quality.
Embossing
Leaves a raised impression on the surface of a product by pushing a shaped die into the back of the material. An expensive process, but it adds texture and can suggest quality.
