Triad
Hegel's favoured structure of mediation.
Universal
A concept that applies to all entities, or all entities of a given type. Generic, Allgemein, 'common to all'.
Particular
A concept applying only to a subset of a universal.
Individual
A single entity, e.g. Socrates.
The Absolute - Noun
The non-static conceptual system embedded in the world.
The Absolute - Adjective
Sometimes used to qualify a thing as excluding or prior to mediation, sometimes refers to a sublated, higher form.
Sublation
Aufhebung. To raise, to abolish, to hold, to cancel, to save, to destroy, to preserve.
Concept
Begriff. Notion. The infinite sewer. That which underlies everything and which towards finite entities strive.
Spirit
Geist. Mind, intellect. For Hegel, generally the human mind and its works in contrast to nature.
Idea
A fully actualized concept.
Idealism
The notion that ideas or the ideal are ontologically and/or epistemologically prior to things or the real.
Negation
For Hegel, the result of a negation are as determinate as what it negates. Negations of negations result in affirmations.
