Hi Blo,

Thanks for all your hard work on the German course. I am about 90% through and I would like to know which are the next set of words I should take so as not to repeat the first 977. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hi Barryh13,

thanks!
firstly, whatever course you do, you won't be asked on words you've already planted. So you can start any course you want and you'll always only be learning the new words in it. Does that make sense?

However, here are a few tips I can give you:
In the next few weeks or so, we'll be getting up an 'Intermediary course' for German, which will consist of lists of most frequently used German words.

In the meantime, if you look at the featured courses, there are two sets based aroud videos (this is a new format we're trying out). The point is to try and learn the words in the videos and try and apply the knowledge to actually understanding. Of course when the language is spoken it's always much harder to understand, but don't let yourself be discouraged, it's more about learning by doing, and getting a feel for the culture!

I'm glad you're enjoying Memrise and the German courses! And please do keep on giving us feedback, it's really useful to know what you find words well or doesn't.

Tschüss!

Hi Laurel,

Thanks for the info, I didn't realise that the Garden crosses courses.

In regards to your Introductory course, I have actually found the words very useful in practice. I have been to Austria for two weeks this month and I found myself using the words all the time during conversation. It is pretty amazing as I would be talking along and then I could just pull the words from memory, but unlike normal the word would appear spelt out in front of my eyes... I could visualise it. I nearly fell off my seat a couple of times, very impressed. And, of course, having this basic vocab just opens doors to communication, it really improves your confidence for getting out there and speaking with people which is the best way to improve.

In regards to the suggestions or ideas for improvements to the system, I would suggest the following:

-Colour the flowers according to gender of article (which would be great for revising word lists)
-Messaging (It is currently really difficult to communicate with other users. A simple message Inbox would help greatly)
-Course Ranking
-Search (Courses, Mems, Users etc.)

Thanks again for all your hard work, I truly appreciate it.

That's great that you've had the occasion to put all the stuff you've learned into practise, and that it worked!

Thanks for the suggestions.
A colour pattern for the flowers is a good idea, but it's not quite clear how that would work yet.
As for communicating, hopefully the 'Garden Wall' system will work well.
The other issues should be addressed soon hopefully!

happy learning!

Hi Blo
I am currently learning 'Bello, der sprechende Hund'. I have one request. As I mostly use my ipod to do the courses, I wonder if you could leave more time for typing when there is a sentence to type - I can't type fast enough on my ipod so I never get it right.

Thanks. Otherwise enjoying the course.
