font change...again?

Is there anyway to get the old font back? These fonts dont look ANYTHING like the old one. Ive spent months and months learning these characters and now suddenly I dont recognize 1/2 the words. Also, the loading time when I do get a word wrong is horrbily slow. It can take up to 10 seconds each time I get a word wrong to load up the correct answer.

  • Could you list the OS and browser (version # as well)? That way, it makes it easier for the memrise team to track down what the issue is. I watered some wilting flowers just now and I'm not getting this issue (Vista/Chrome).

  • Changing fonts might actually be helpful for real world application of chinese language. I depends upon your goals. I immediately noticed this when I used the memrise application on an Ipad after studying on my desktop computer. You will also see different fonts in books, signs, other computers, hand writing, etc. I was happy that I became aware of this earlier, rather than later.

  • this new font is WAY BETTER than the previous one. In fact I had dropped using memrise because it did not help visual memory, characters did not correspond visually to the one taught to me during my regular chinese classes. This change has been a great improvement for me, returning me back to Memrise!

To those who spent months studying only on "capital-style" characters...do not panic. You will pick up the new characters very quickly. With two advantages:

    1) after MONTHS, it is about time you move on to this more "cursive" style, it will help you orientate a lot better in a chinese enviroenment

    2) it is a good tool to practice (mental) writing, because the strokes are finally correctly drawn on screen, like in books (and teaching books).

  • odd, I have had the cursive characters since I started. I occasionally review cards on pleco, which uses a more typical font. At first, I struggled going between the two, but once you know a lot more characters it becomes fairly easy.
