First of all, I am very glad to have discovered this site. The flashcard app is great, and it's the only place online where I can find a list for the Ganada Korean for Foreigners series (or at least, for the unit I'm studying!).
But I'm confused about the spelling system. When the flashcard asks me to spell a word, I enter in what I know is the standard hangeul transcription, but it always tells me I'm wrong. If I see 개미, I type in "gaemi," but it will only accept "geh-mi," with the hyphen included. Are there specific transcription rules that this site is using? Or is it up to the individual list creator?
There's an official romanization system that's accepted by the South Korean government and under that system 개미 would be gaemi but there are a lot of people who decide to stray from that system because they feel it would help them more.
I like the official way better because romanizing in a uniform way makes things a lot less messy and a lot less confusing but to each his/her own, I guess. Some people like to romanize in a way that's closer to the pronunciation.
Personally, I'd prefer if people just wrote in Hangeul haha.
