There seems to have been a new update. Can you tell me how you get a picture into a mem now? I have tried with a link, the html code and the img code with no success. Any ideas? Thank you.
Apologies for this - there were a few issues with embedding urls : it was leading to a lot of broken links in mems where the images had been moved. It also makes it much harder to make really good tools for adding text, drawing tools and other features that will let us take mem creation up to the next level.
I appreciate that it might feel like a step back at the moment, but we will be adding in an image search function very soon that will let you add images from elsewhere on the web. At the moment you can also add any images by just saving it and uploading it the the mem (you should attribute it to the author if necessary, of course).
So apologies for the change in the way that this works, but I dont think that it should stop you adding images, and it will indeed soon be very much easier. I hope that makes sense, please let me know if not,
It will be able to see embedded links like videos and images again? All of my pictures were shared in this way, and I think it would be a good idea to encourage it because it requires much less bandwidth of memrise!
The other thing is if you embed a flickr picture you get a link right back to the original, which is a great fast way to give credit, vs right click, save, copy name of photographer go to memrise, add mem, find picture on desktop, upload picture, paste name of photographer, back to flickr, copy link, back to memrise paste link.
Just yesterday I was at a university and the lady working there thought she needed to use two different browsers to have two different windows open at the same time, she didn't know about tabs... it would be impossible for her to do this!
I think that if everybody is uploading images they are less likely to give credit and links back. I mean we are already using other people's dictionary websites to add definitions, do we want to be using other people“s pictures as well?
@RabbitWho, for the image search, if we used the Flickr API (which is one option) for image search, the whole thing will be integrated in the mem creation tool, and will also do the attribution. So it will be much much easier and faster than any other way.
I will check about the old mems with embedded urls - I must admit that I thought that they were going to be fixed so that you could still see them, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I will check it out for you right away,
I don't place much reliance on mems, but several that really helped me were videos by luciamonita here in Spanish and coralie in french. And some of these were the most popular mems for their words.
They don't work anymore. But Sanlee, isn't it pretty!
