Adding 坚硬 'solid'

Ben (or someone else if they know how), could you tell me how to add 坚硬 'solid' to my wordlist (http://www.memrise.com/set/10020159/azimuths-words)?

It doesn't come up on dictionary search for the english meanings, and the hanzi search isn't working atm. The URL for the page is http://www.memrise.com/item/18736/hard-4/

  • Hmmm. This is beyond me. As a test, I actually added 坚硬, but the lookup returned a standard definition of 'flintiness'. To be clear, I added the word to your list. I then removed it, because I don't want to break anything. I think maybe Ben should just make the call--probably changing the main English definition to something more accurate.

This is what came up... http://www.memrise.com/item/602968/flintiness-5/

  • Azimuth, I bow down in honor of your 2,991 learned words.

  • Odd, so it appears that the search is working differently for different people, right? That is not good.

The way that I would add words at the moment if they don't come up when you are adding words "one-by-one" would be to use the "add as a list" function - write in the characters for the word (you can do just a single word if you want) and press "add". That search is much more reliable than the dictionary search at the moment.

There also seems to be a separate issue that there are duplicate versions of this word in the database, I will get those merged soon.

    Thanks and best wishes

    Ben

  • Thanks to both of you. The 'add as list' function works well.

@carl_a: Thanks, but don't bow too low - my speaking/listening vocabulary remains that of a dimwitted child!

  • When I have a problem with the searches,I "jiggle the handle" so to speak. For instance, I find that if you already have the pinyin and the word doesn't come up, then adding the English meaning to the search usually does the trick. Even if neither will work on its own.

I think they need to add a box "I can't seem to find ..." so we can report this stuff and help them track it down easier. I think I constantly can't find a word as easily as I should. Generally, I search for a single character and I get all two character words.
