"Water all wilting plants"

Just wondering if Memrise is planning to put a "water all wilting plants" button up at some point - the home page shows a "water all" button which waters both non-wilting and wilting plants it seems, but a slight tweak seems to be all that's needed to water just the wilting plants.

i.e. For Dutch, manually entering http://www.memrise.com/cave/?topic=dutch&ltemplatename=random_old&plant_filter=wilting will water just the wilting plants but water all is the more generic http://www.memrise.com/cave/?topic=dutch&ltemplatename=random_old&plant_filter=garden which doesn't seem quite as useful.

I'd guess that deleting "topic=dutch" from that line would enable watering across all different topics, but that seems like it would introduce a fair bit of confusion, whereas watering all gardens within a topic I doubt would cause confusion of the sort.

  • I'd like that too.

  • +1

When you're learning a number of courses it starts getting extremely time consuming having to water just 10 plants at a time from about as many different wordlists.

I think in general, a better garden management structure would be helpful. For example, being able to group wordlists together (e.g. a group called "HSK" containing HSK1,HSK2,..,HSK6) and then be able to water all the plants in the garden/greenhouse for that particular group.

  • Yep, this sounds good to me!

  • I didn't feel like waiting so I whipped up my own solution that should work if you're using Google Chrome.

(This'll also work if you happen to have a certain Firefox addon called GreaseMonkey installed - click https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/ and click the install button - might have to restart your browser).

Load the URL http://www.rotundus.com/tmp/Add_Water_all_wilting_Button.user.js into Google Chrome - it'll ask you if you want to install. Approve that (it might ask you if you want to view the script to ensure that it's not malicious... it's just a few lines of hacked-together Javascript).

Then browse to http://www.memrise.com/home/ and you should have an added button that says "Water all wilting" that'll make this change.

Let me know if it works.

  • Thanks! That is a big help for watering all my Spanish wilting flowers from the various gardens at once.

A note to Firefox users: Once you install GreaseMonkey you ALSO have to click on the 2nd link to install the actual javascript to enable the 'water wilting' button. It now works for me in Firefox.

  • Mind sharing that in the Dev. Center Dave?

  • Excellent script Dave. That's exactly what the "water all" button should do in the first place.

  • I would also like a harvest all option :)

  • Couldn't get the userscript to work with dwb, will try again later.

But anyways, it seems like it adds the button per topic. Would be great to have one "water all wilting" button that will go through all topics. +1 for the suggestion !

  • I'm not quite sure what you mean by dwb so I'm not sure why the script isn't working.

The script I through together does things on a per-topic basis at the moment - it was basically built to accomplish what I was looking for. (I'm only learning one topic at the moment).

I'm guessing that something similar might be doable for watering multiple topics, but I wonder if that would be counterproductive - i.e. if I'm learning Dutch and German and get an prompt for a word, I need to know which language I'm dealing with to be able to answer correctly.

Try clicking the following link though and let me know if it sets you up to water all the different topics simultaneously: http://www.memrise.com/cave/?ltemplatename=random_old&plant_filter=wilting

  • @Dave114, dwb is just another browser that accepts userscripts: http://portix.bitbucket.org/dwb/

Somehow, your link gives me new words, not only wilting ones. And yes you're right, the design would need a little change for the user to be clear about which topic he's currently working on when answering a question.

  • Update to @Dave114: Script works finely on dwb, problem was the userscript manager that was failing, needed to upgrade to the trunk version. Thanks for the script !

  • Definitely need a button to water all wilting within a given topic. Also, perhaps instead of random ordering, the plants you're tested on could be sorted by 'thirst' - ie those that have been wilting for longest get tested first.

  • I've now moved this script over to userscripts.org: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/136296
