Kanji reading test - improvements?

I have now entered the phase where I'm asked for the yomikata and have done quite some practice. Here are some things that bother me about the current system and that may be improved:

1) Testing English > Yomikata By now I have the feeling this is not helping me much, because I rather tend to link the yomikata to the English. I would prefer a Kanji > Yomikata way, where the English is either not shown at all or only in small font on the upper edge.

2) Learning all the readings So far the system accepts only one reading as correct and then skips to the next Kanji to test. I (and probably many others) tend to be lazy, so entering the same Onyomi every time and not bother about the rest that one does not recall immediately. In principle the current way is ok, because testing all yomikata individually would immensly blow up the training sessions and is too tedious. However, I would like to see all possible reading pop up as a hint once you type one correct reading.

  • Two months and no comment?

Well, after two months of training I still think what I wrote back then still applies. The practice for readings is a bit off and it would be a huge improvement if one would be shown the Kanji instead of the English. Then there would also be no need for the separate "Kanji readings" section.

For the individual Kanji I would actually like to have separate tests for Onyomi and Kunyomi. Especially memorizing the Kunyomi is a pain in the a** and I would improve more by having to pass tests on it.

  • I agree wholeheartedly, i feel that learning the english first makes sense but after a while there should be an option for kanji only

  • I would also like to point out that this is sorely needed because right now it's almost impossible to actually learn the readings of the kanji from the N5, N4, N3 kanji lists.

The Kanji Readings section seems to be too high level with words with 2,3,4 or 5 Kanjis for one word.

There seems to be no way for a level 5 or level 4 Kanji reader to practice the Kanji readings through Memrise unless i am missing something

  • Well, I anyway feel the "Kanji reading" topic would not really be needed if the testing system would be altered in this topic.

Honestly, trying to remember Kanji when Kanji do not get even displayed in 50% of the test questions (thanks to the freezing code bug not even for a second) is highly inefficient. I've already been thinking about transfering my courses to the "Kanji readings" topics, but it would probably be a huge pain to get everything set up from scratch, apart from losing my progress.

  • I would highly suggest avoiding the Kanji Readings section at the moment. It is cursed!!! I have been having such a love/hate relationship with that section for months. It won't upload any spreadsheets or let me edit stuff.

I really hope we can get a better testing system soon. Ben keeps promising it...... If I knew who the developer was who is in charge of adding the user settings for testing, I would show up on their doorstep begging PLEASE! :)
