Disappearing panels in 8 option multiple choice questions

There are several things I don't like with how options disappear with multiple choice questions:

  1. It often starts before I had time to think a bit, and read all answers. Partly because my hiragana reading isn't too fast. Generally I think the time limit for this question type is rather short, especially compared to how much time I have for typing questions.
  2. The graphical effect of disappearing is too attention drawing. Perhaps use a darker shade of gray.
  3. Removed panels are skipped in keyboard navigation. Makes it pretty hard to reliably navigate to a certain answer, especially if a panel disappears while I'm navigating.

  • points 1 and 2 I can definitely agree with, although it is fun sometimes to try and get it as fast as possible.

on 3 - I've never tried using arrow keys to navigate. I either use the mouse, or use the keyboard number button. this is a bit error-prone with 8 options, though.

  • I disagree. The point of the test is that you shouldn't be thinking (very hard or consciously) and you shouldn't be reading all the answers. One of the hardest things about languages is that native speakers talk at what seems like such a fast pace. Getting your mind to processing that speed is important. Reading quickly (as in close to your normal, native language reading pace) is also important.

I never found the panels to be a distraction; however, I think distractions are good. There will be tons of distractions in real life whenever you're reading or speaking.

I never use the arrow keys for testing but that does sound really annoying.
