hi fronika.. yes.. it is definitely still possible to fully omit any accents or special characters, and you will otherwise still be marked as correct.
however, if you add just one character, then any others will be needed, in order to be marked correct.
i believe ben has mentioned that in the future, we may be able to set whether or not we wish for lack of accents to be marked as fail or not, but for the time being, we can definitely omit the accents..
what i'd like to see is that if we do omit accents, that memrise always prompts us afterwards with the word correctly spelled, just to make sure we are sure!!
Hi Doralina and Mangodurian, thanks for your replies. Sorry for the delay in responding but I'd forgotten I'd posted on the Forum.
I think the idea of memrise giving us the right answer after we left off the accents is a good one. However, I don't think we should given the option to omit accents because the words are effectively wrong.
hi fronika.. i agree, especially for czech, where the czech letters are really quite crucial, and can make one not understood if ommited while speaking. I think ben has stated previously that in the future, whether or not accents are accepted can be a user controlled option, so it's just a question of waiting until that feature gets implemented. Sounds like there's a big change about to happen in the way memrise runs internally that will help bring about a lot of future changes and enhancements..
Thanks Magodurian. Memrise is a great site already and any enhancements will make it even more so.
I recently started a French course on here and was delighted to find it had sound. The Czech courses are silent, :(. I know from your profile you are not a native Czech speaker but your partner is. Is there any possibility you could persuade your partner to pronounce some words for us? Even if was only a few of those impossible words with R hacek, or the nearly as bad CH ones, it would be a huge help. I know that’s cheeky to ask, but it’s worth a try!
hi fronika,
that's a good idea, and i've been meaning to ask her if she could help out some with that..
well.. i just asked her, and she agrees to give it a try, but first i think we need to invest in a small microphone for the computer. I'll try and get onto it soon.
ah thanks, I always tried with the you-tube-code for embedding - and I saw it for some time, before it disappeared again! and sorry for not correcting the mistakes myself!
and did you see: I couldn´t find out "podemele" yet;-)
hi doralina, .. yes, i saw the podemele.. i'm not too sure about it myself yet.. i've asked my partner, but haven't fully understood her explanation yet. hopefully i'll get my head around it soon, and can help out (i sent you an email a couple of hours ago about it too).. great work by the way, these videos certainly seem to make words stick better!!
In one specific course? (It shouldn't be like that anyway)
Best wishes, D.

Posted by mangodurian 4/22/12 (1 year ago)Great! Thanks Mangodurian.
Posted by Fronika 4/23/12 (1 year ago)I just started that course. It so helpful to have the sound and see the words at the same time. Good job M.
Posted by Fronika 4/23/12 (1 year ago)We (;-)) love that course too. Shall I do holka modrooká next (as it is the favourite of my little son;-))
Posted by doralina 4/23/12 (1 year ago)Sounds good, Doralina, :)
Posted by Fronika 4/23/12 (1 year ago)pfhhh - the embedded code of the youtube-video gets lost again and again ... and I can´t find all words ... so - nearly ready;-)
Posted by doralina 4/23/12 (1 year ago)great idea with the holka modrooka doralina.. i'm working on já mám koně now..
to embed the youtube video into the course description you need to add "" prior to the url.. ie:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTOUuhAxR8k
good luck!
Posted by mangodurian 4/23/12 (1 year ago)doralina, i just edited the course description, and corrected the youtube code.. (also merged one or two words already in the database!). cheers.
