A lot of Chinese characters can have more than one pronounciation and meaning.斗 dou4 means to fight/struggle. I find this meaning of the word more common in everyday use, so I always get it wrong when it comes up in memrise. Will the website facilitate the use of multiple definitions paired with pronounciations in the future?
Both "to fight" and "to struggle" should already be accepted as alternative answers for this character already. You can see the alternative answers when you are learning a character by clicking on "show more" on the right hand side. Have you been being marked wrong for "to fight" of "to struggle"?Where a character has two different pronunciations with totally different meanings we usually create separate items in the database. In this case the primary meaning given is the radical meaning, and the pronunciation of that is quite rare, so I don't think that there is any advantage to learning an extra separate character. So I have added in dou4 as an acceptable alternative pronunciation.Does this sound like a good solution? ThanksBen
The last example pronunciation doesn't match the written tone. The written tone is dou3, but it is spoken as dou4 in the example.
