What happened to the tone game?

I have been playing the tone game for awhile but it is gone now....where is it?

We're sorry, but the tonegame was a bit orthogonal to the whole site that not many people used, and was becoming a bit of a maintenance cost to keep working. We're sorry you are missing it, but unfortunately there were only 6 players a week, which meant we couldn't really justify keeping it.

You needed to type in memrise.com/tonegame In my opinion, it was a really good feature if you are learning Mandarin, and struggle with the tones, which most people do(?) Definately added fun to learning the tones, which baffles many. Shame, it was never really promoted, certainly no links to follow, hence only 6 players a week. In my group of about 16 friends that learn Mandarin, most would have benefitted if they knew. Maybe also a few more points could have been awarded, it wasn't really a system that generated a lot of points for you. I stumbled across tonegame when originally looking for Memrise via Google search. Surely at a later stage Adam, seeing as it was a very useful feature, it could be reintroduced and promoted? I'm sure you could work it into the Memrise masterplan! Best regards all :)

It was a great tool to learn the tones for beginners! Please, if you could even upload it to another place? I have not seen anything like it that made tone learning so enjoyable.

I agree, the tone game was excellent. The problem with it, in my opinion, is not the game itself, but that it's near impossible to find on the website - hence no users! If you put it back on with a clear link to it from a major page(s), then I'm sure you would get a LOT of users!

Yes!!! I agree with Funkman. Please bring it back! It sounds like just what I need at this stage of my learning. In fact, I just signed up with this site in hopes that you will bring it back and make it easily accessible.

The tone game was so hard to find on the site that I wasn't 100% certain that it was gone until I found this thread. When you bring it back you should defiantly make it easier to find.

Thats not fair, I didn't even get to try it. I could have doubled the weekly usage just by getting my class to use it.

If you really don't want to support it any more, then maybe you could open source it. That way somebody else could host it and all these people will still be able to play the game.
