LIDS are designed to fit into pots and pans to keep heat and moisture in, they are straight lines with a handle (to protect from the heat) because if they overlapped with down edges, water from steam would drip out. CROWNS and ROOFS are designed to fit onto heads and houses; they need down edges for a better fit (and to keep water out?). ROOFS (not CROWNS)also need a chimney to let smoke out. by ElaineCampbell
