James Abbot McNeill Whistler was born July 10th, 1834 and died July 17th, 1903. He was an American born British based artist and a leading proponent of the credo 'art for art's sake.' His most famous painting is "Whistler's Mother," 1871. Whistler's trip to Valparaiso, Chile produced his first nocturnal paintings which he termed 'moonlight.'
